How to use the word finder

1. 1. Green letters. Type any letter you've confirmed into the box matching its position. Blank boxes stay wild.
2. 2. Yellow letters. List the letters you know are in the word but haven't placed yet — the finder keeps only words containing all of them.
3. 3. Grey letters. List the letters you've ruled out. A letter that also appears as green or yellow is ignored here, so you can paste your whole keyboard row safely.

Results update as you type, and the "most common letters left" line shows which letters appear in the largest share of the remaining candidates — guessing several of those at once usually cuts the list down fastest.

Word finder tips for five-letter puzzles

• Openers packed with common letters — SLATE, CRANE, ROATE, ADIEU — narrow the field fastest.
• A grey tile only rules a letter out entirely when you haven't seen it green or yellow elsewhere; repeated letters are the usual reason a guess feels impossible.
• When two or three candidates remain and you still have guesses left, spend one on a word that tests the letters they differ by rather than guessing at random.
• Endings do a lot of work: -OUND, -IGHT, -ATCH and -ANCE families collapse quickly once you lock the final two letters.
